The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management is a leading centre for agricultural education and research, offering BSc, MSc and PhD programmes closely linked to the needs of modern agriculture and the food industry.
The Institute of Animal Science, Biotechnology and Nature Conservation is one of the largest academic units of the Faculty and brings together expertise in livestock, poultry and fish production, nutrition and nature conservation. It comprises three departments: the Department of Animal Science, the Department of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, and the Department of Nature Conservation Zoology and Game Management. Together, they provide education in more than 7 BSc, MSc and PhD programmes, including the Doctoral School of Animal Science, and offer a broad range of courses in animal breeding, genetics, nutrition, physiology, reproductive biotechnology, aquaculture, food quality, precision livestock farming, wildlife management and nature conservation.
The institute conducts multidisciplinary research ranging from dairy and poultry production, molecular genetics, proteomics and reproductive technologies to precision livestock farming, fish biology, aquaculture and conservation biology. Research project are supported by national and international funds, including Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, COST programmes, and by extensive collaborations with industry and governmental partners. In addition to modern laboratories for animal biology, fish biology + aquaponics and assisted reproduction, the institute maintains strong links with commercial livestock farms, aquaculture enterprises, national parks and wildlife management organizations, ensuring that both education and research are closely connected to practical applications.
