About

The Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences at Jastrzebiec /Warsaw is one of the leading Polish institutions in the field of animal science and genetics. The Institute has a European status of the Centre of Excellence in Genomics, Biotechnology and Quality of Animal Products in Sustainable Production Systems with Consideration of Animal Welfare – ANIMBIOGEN in EU (FP7 project). Our mission is to promote innovation and biological progress in agriculture, and the use of animal biotechnology methods to improve the quality of human life, by conducting novel research in genetics, animal breeding, reproductive biology and animal behaviour.

Vision

It is the Institute’s vision is to deliver know-how and innovation for the development of sustainable livestock production. We conduct research in the field of animal breeding and genetics; quality of food of animal origin; sustainable animal production systems, animal welfare; functional genomics; reproductive biology; biotechnology; nutrigenomics, development of basic tools and technologies, including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenetics and bioinformatics.

Polish Academy of Sciences in the Animal Task Force

IGAB PAS represents the Polish institutions in Animal Task Force. We are a member of the Polish Technology Platform for Food and we collaborate closely with Polish agri-food sector. We are a leader of the biggest research applied project in Poland in the field of life sciences and agriculture – “BIOFOOD – innovative, functional products of animal origin”. The Institute provides experise in listed above aspects of genetics and livestock production to enhance innovation and sustainability in the animal production sector contributing to the development of knowledge-based bio-economy.
