Agricultural University of Athens

About

The Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) is the third oldest university in Greece. Since its founding in 1920, it has consistently contributed to the development of Greece’s primary sectors. AUA conducts both fundamental and applied research across a broad range of agricultural disciplines, including crop science, animal science, food science, biotechnology, agricultural engineering, logistics, economics, forestry, rural development, and supply chain management, covering the entire agri-food sector. In addition to its academic departments, AUA houses a Lifelong Learning Center and a Research Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The university’s faculty and researchers possess extensive expertise in areas such as animal husbandry, genetics, feed and nutrition, health and welfare, environmental control in animal housing, precision livestock farming, emissions measurement and modeling, and sustainability impact assessment. These research activities are supported by various European projects and collaborations with private companies and stakeholders. AUA also boasts cutting-edge experimental facilities and advanced monitoring infrastructure for conducting measurements at the animal, farm, and environmental levels. AUA strives to address global challenges in food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development. We aim to empower future leaders and professionals by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and tools to drive the transformation of agriculture, contribute to the well-being of society, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources.

Vision

By bridging scientific expertise with industry needs, AUA envisions shaping a resilient, sustainable, and technologically advanced future of the livestock sector in view of climate change.

AUA in the Animal Task Force

By fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and sustainability, AUA is developing solutions that meet the evolving needs of society, the environment, and the economy for a resilient to climate change livestock sector.
