About
Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LUHS) is one of the largest universities specialising in life sciences in Europe and the largest institution of higher education for biomedical sciences in Lithuania, successfully integrating studies, research, and clinical practice. 7 faculties at the LSMU offer a variety of study programmes and degrees covering all three cycles of the University education. More than 8000 students (28 % full-time foreign students from 88 countries) are currently enrolled here. The study programmes meet university education standards applied in EU countries, and the LUHS diploma is internationally recognised. The University includes 4 research institutes, each dedicated to research in its specific field. Close cooperation between the University and LUHS Hospital Kauno klinikos, the greatest scientific potential in the areas of biomedical sciences and healthcare in Lithuania, brings about the complete integration of research, study and practice. This creates the conditions to train top- level academics and scientists, to carry out research and development, to cooperate with enterprises and the public sector and to introduce innovations and successfully implement them into practice.
LUHS is the only university in Lithuania that trains veterinary doctors and husbandry technologists. Its Large Animal Clinic is the only one of its kind nationwide providing inpatient care for farm animals. Research in the livestock sector is successfully carried out at the Institute of Animal Science, which conducts both fundamental and applied studies at national and international levels. The Institute contributes to specialist training and also plays a vital role in preserving national farm animal breeds and protecting the biodiversity of genetic resources, ensuring long-term sustainability in the sector.

Lithuanian University of Health Sciences aims to become a leading European University in health sciences, promoting societal well-being and supporting Lithuania’s social, economic, and cultural development. Through agricultural research and the activities of the Institute of Animal Science, university develops innovative solutions and supports the creation of a healthier more sustainable livestock production and helps build a stronger society.
LUHS in the Animal Task Force
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences and its Institute of Animal Science represent all Lithuanian knowledge institutions and industry partners within ATF, providing a valuable contribution to the development of sustainable livestock production, restoration of biodiversity, while also bringing valuable insights from the experience of Eastern European countries.
