Promoting a sustainable livestock sector in Europe

INRA Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique - France

About INRA
The National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) is a public research institution under the joint authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. INRA is a leading European agricultural research institute and one of the foremost institutes in the world for agriculture, food and the environment. It is also the second largest public research institute in France. INRA carries out mission-oriented research for high-quality and healthy foods, competitive and sustainable agriculture and a preserved and valorised environment.

Vision
INRA’s vision is to provide knowledge and innovations for the development of sustainable, robust and economically viable livestock production systems and to define the conditions for optimising production, welfare and environmental performance. INRA’s research covers all areas concerning livestock, from basic biology, genetics, physiology, to the conception and evaluation of livestock farming systems and their place in our society. INRA works on extensive and intensive systems and all the major livestock sectors (fish, poultry, pigs and ruminants).

INRA in the Animal Task Force
INRA represents the French knowledge institutes in the ATF. As a leading agricultural research organisation in Europe, INRA is in a unique position to provide expertise in all areas of animal research. Furthermore, this diversity leads to an interdisciplinary vision of the animal sector that interfaces neatly with our partners. INRA has a strong expertise in fundamental animal physiology, health and genetics as well as an overview of how livestock systems interact with other areas of agricultural, social and economic science. INRA is committed to contribute this knowledge to the success of ATF.
