Dear Colleagues,

The “International Symposium on the Mediterranean Pig” was initiated by experts and scientists from several Mediterranean countries who wanted to organize regular meetings to exchange experiences, research results, and project ideas on different aspects of local pig farming. The aim of the symposium is to address the needs of developing and improving extensive production systems of local pig breeds, making them more efficient while maintaining product quality, protecting the environment, and promoting the economic and social development of the local communities from which they originate.

The first “International Symposium on the Mediterranean Pig” was held in Ajaccio (Corsica, France) in 1987, followed by Badajoz (Spain) in 1992, Benevento (Italy) in 1995, Évora (Portugal) in 1998, Tarbes (France) in 2004, Capo d 'Orlando (Sicily, Italy) in 2007, Córdoba (Spain) in 2010, Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 2013, Portalegre (Portugal) in 2016 and Florence (Italy) in 2019.

The next “XI International Symposium on the Mediterranean Pig” will be held October 11-14, 2022, at the Olympia SKY Resort in Vodice, Croatia.
