INRA Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique

INRAE Institut National de Recherche pour l'Agriculture, l'alimentation et l'Environnement
About
Created on January 1, 2020, INRAE is a Public Scientific and Technical Research Establishment (EPST). It was formed by the merger of INRA, the French National Institute for Agricultural Research, and IRSTEA, the French National Research Institute of Science and Technology for the Environment and Agriculture. It is under the joint aegis of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MESRI) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAA). INRAE is also beginning to closely collaborate with the Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition (MTES) via various partnership agreements.
Its missions are to carry out, organise, and coordinate, on its own initiative or in response to a governmental request, all types of scientific and technological research in the domains of agriculture, food, forestry, the environment, water resources, biodiversity, the bioeconomy, the circular economy, the sustainable management of regions, and risk management.

Vision
INRAE’s vision is to provide knowledge and innovations for the development of sustainable, robust and economically viable livestock production systems and to define the conditions for optimising production, welfare and environmental performance. INRAE’s research covers all areas concerning livestock, from basic biology, genetics, physiology, to the conception and evaluation of livestock farming systems and their place in our society. INRAE works on extensive and intensive systems and all the major livestock sectors (fish, poultry, pigs and ruminants).

INRAE in the Animal Task Force
INRAE represents the French knowledge institutes in the ATF. As a leading agricultural research organisation in Europe, INRAE is in a unique position to provide expertise in all areas of animal research. Furthermore, this diversity leads to an interdisciplinary vision of the animal sector that interfaces neatly with our partners. INRAE has a strong expertise in fundamental animal physiology, health and genetics as well as an overview of how livestock systems interact with other areas of agricultural, social and economic science. INRAE is committed to contribute this knowledge to the success of ATF.
